DIY Monday: Diaper Cake

D.I.Y. Monday
Diaper Cakes
You will need
100 size 1 Diapers
Rubber Bands
Glue Gun
Receiving Blankets (optional)
Items to decorate you cake - Carnations, Plastic Pacifiers etc..
Baby Supplies - Lotion, Baby Powder, Shampoo etc...
Wooden Dowels
Cake Board

Roll up your diapers and rubber band.

I used my 6", 8", & 10" cake pans but you do not have to use this. It just helped hold it in place.

I used 15 diapers in my first tier (top tier).

Place a large rubber band around all 15 diapers to hold together.

Do this for the 2nd and 3rd tiers too. Use 35 diapers for the 2nd tier and 50 diapers for the 3rd tier.
Fold the receiving blankets in a long rectangle and wrap around your tier of diapers.

Place a large rubber band to hold. DO this with all 3 tiers.

Cover your rubber band with a ribbon.

On your cake board, stack your tiers on top of one another and place a few wooden dowels trough each tier. I used 3 wooden dowels.

Decorate your cake to your liking.

I have a small pack of wipes on the back of the large tier because the blanket did not go all the way around.

I also added 'It's a Boy' signs, carnations, baby oil, lotion, hand sanatizer, baby powder, vasaline, shampoo and topped it of with a cute stuffed elephant.

Check out my Motorcycle Diaper Cake Here :D

Happy Memorial Day!! Be safe and have fun!

Dr. Browns Bottle Giveaway & Review

Sweet Friday:
Review & GIVEAWAY!

I am so very excited for this post :D

This is my second Dr. Browns Baby Bottle Review and my first giveaway!

You may remember my first review and if not you can click here to read the full review.

What I said in a nutshell: I love these bottles. They reduce spit-up and are easy to clean, but they leak when you push the nipple up and down. Jaxson has moved on to sippy cups and only uses these bottles at night when I am holding him.

CLICK HERE to read the full review.

As, you know my last review was about Dr. Brown's Wide Neck Bottles and this review is over the Standard Bottles.

I didn't think about it when I wrote the last review but Madison actually used these Standard Bottles and not the Wide-Neck Bottles. Maybe, that is why I had great success with them the first time around.

The vacuum is stronger on the Wide-Neck Bottles then the Standard Bottles.

Well, I am 100% happy with Dr. Brown's Standard Bottles.

Since we switched bottles, a little over a week ago, we have no more mess. Almost the whole nipple fits in Jax's mouth so he has no room to pump the nipple, which means we do not have any leaks :) It's wonderful!

The Level 3 Nipples are great too. He's at the perfect age for them.

This bottle is easier for Jaxson to hold than the Wide-Neck Bottles from Dr. Brown.

This weekend we are going to get a few more of these Dr. Brown's Training Cups. I have used many Training/Sippy Cups and these are the best ones, hands down. Not one leak what -so-ever. The child has to suck to get anything out and I just love♥ them. At first, I could not tell if Jax was getting anything, but once he did you could hear it.

I do not like the sippy cups that they can just bite on and the liquid leaks into the mouth. I like the Dr. Brown Training Cups because the child does have to actually suck to get anything out. I think this is great for Moms who do put their kids to bed with a cup. In my opinion, it will cut back on tooth decay because no liquids are leaking continuously in the mouth (I'm, actually, a non-working Registered Dental Assistant too... lol).
I, also, got a chance to review the Dishwasher Basket for the Standard Bottles. I already have one of the Dishwasher Basket for the Wide-Neck Bottles and I love them both. They are awesome. I love the cut-out shapes letting us know where each item goes. It's totally dummy proof :D

I know this post was long but I hope it helped you decide to buy or not to buy.

I say BUY :D

How to make a Knotted Fleece Blanket

Tutorial Thursday
Knotted Fleece Blanket
by Raychel Kennedy
  • You will need 2 different kind of fleece. I used a red and black paw print for one side and solid black for the other side.
  • Scissors

My blanket was so big that I had to make it on the floor.

  • Layer your two fleece together and line them up.
  • Trim any excess fabric you need to.

  • Cut a 4 inch square out of all four corners

    • Cut one inch strips all around your blanket`

  • Tie your bottom layer fleece to your top layer fleece in a double knot.
  • Do this with each strip you cut
Once you tied all knots together you are finished :D

A perfect 'no sew' blanket great for football games, baby showers, or just to snuggle up on the couch.

My blanket was for my Mom when she goes to my brother's high school football games in the fall/winter. I made this last fall :D

Sweet Friday. Make-up Cake

Sweet Friday
Make-Up Cake
By Raychel Kennedy
This cake was for a very girly four year old who loves make-up and dancing in high heels.

I made eye shadow, eye shadow brush, mascara, a mirror, high heel, lip stick, nail polish and a pearl bracelet. Circle cut outs wrapped around the cake and the only thing that was not edible was the huge rhinestone on top of the shoe.

Toy Story Cake
By Raychel Kennedy

This was a stressful cake to make. Thank God Daniel came to my rescue and helped.
We made this cake April 24th.
This is a buttercream cake and you all know I'm not good at buttercream cakes. The decorations are made from fondant except for the toys.

So, this weekend we are attending a family wedding. What do you have planned?

Oh, make sure to follow this blog because I have a few great giveaways coming soon :D

Review: Dr. Brown's Bottles

Dr. Brown's Bottles

This review was 17 months in the making. Let me explain.

When Madison was born (five years ago) she spit up after EVERY feeding. We heard about Dr. Brown's Bottles and switched. We loved them and told EVERYONE we knew how amazing these bottles are. Madison no longer spit up after feedings nor did she even have to burp. Madison was officially off the bottle at 10 months old.

Now, 5 years later with Jaxson we knew from the get-go that Jax would use these AMAZING bottles. He too, does not spit up after feedings but this last month we have found a problem.

When we lay Jaxson down with his bottle (yes he now can hold it) and when we come back there is formula EVERYWHERE. We never had this problem with Madison so I thought it was a malfunctioning bottle, until I tested all of his bottles out and discovered this...
When you push the nipple up and down fromula fills the inner vent and it spills down the sides of the bottle leaving a HUGE mess.
It took a week to figure it out. I stared at Jaxson non-stop while he was holding his bottle and once he was done eating he would start playing with the nipple. Squeezing and squeezing it making a huge mess all over him and the bed.

I guess it's a boy thing. Boys with nipples lol, because I didn't have this problem with Maddie.

I really do not want to go and buy new bottles. Since Friday, Jax has been using a sippy cut during the day and the bottle at night.

I still like Dr. Brown's Bottles but very disappointed in my findings. I will no longer use them unless I am holding the bottle for him.

Oh, it drives me crazy when I see all those bad reviews on this bottle having too many parts and is hard to clean. I just do not agree. Yes, there is several parts, but that shouldn't bother you if the bottle helps your baby and if you rinse out the bottle as soon as the baby is done eating it is not hard to clean.

You can even buy a dishwashing caddy to put the parts in and throw in your dishwasher.

I would love to hear what you think about this bottle.
