I love how it turned out, however, next time I will make Minnie Mouse's ears a tad bit bigger for the cupcakes.

Do you like how I used a Mickey Mouse stamp on the cake? You can DIY.

I didn't think about it, but I should have bought a Minnie Mouse stamp... DUH!

Melted Crayon Art with Kids Names. TIPs to DIY

DIY Melted Crayon Art
~Great Kids Craft~

These are all over Pinterest and I do not know who to give credit to for the orginal idea. This is a fun and creative idea for kids and adults.

To DIY all you need is.....
Blow Dryer
Hot Glue Gun or another type of glue
Canvas or white cardboard (shirt box)
Black Stickers for kids names.

Easy DIY Melted Crayon Art STEPS:

Add the childs name with black stickers on the bottom of your canvas/board.
Glue crayons at the top of your canvas or white cardboard.
Get your blow dryer and melt the crayons.
Let Dry (takes 30 seconds or less).

The kids and I made four of these in 2 days. Here are some helpful tips I learned along the way...

  1. Use at least 2 or more same colored crayons next to eachother. Jaxson's crayon art was the first one we made and the colors look darker, because they blended together too much.
  2. No need to melt the entire crayon. Just melt the tips of the crayons. On Jaxson's we started to melt the crayons from the top and it took awhile to start melting. It, also, made the paper around the crayon waxy. If you just melt the tips of the crayons the paper will still be nice and bright light Madison's Crayon Art. Only the top of the paper (near the tips) will be darker from the melted wax.
  3. Blow dry downward. If you keep the blow dryer straight on the crayon it will go everywhere when it starts to melt.
  4. Lay down paper under your melted crayon art. Just in case :)

Madison & Madilyn's Melted Crayon Art (our 3rd and 4th creations)

Madison's cousin, Madilyn, spent the night and this was a great project for the girls to create. I didn't have any more white canvas, so we just used shirt boxes left over from Christmas.

These crayon arts will hang above their new art centers my father made. {Picture HERE}

Funny Kitchen Signs for the non-cook

Kitchen signs....

I came across some funny quotes, for the non-cook, that I thought you might find as funny as I did. I am a "non-cook". I do not enjoy cooking and I dislike the clean-up just as much as I dislike the cooking. I do know how to cook the basics tacos, chicken, spaghetti, etc.

Funny Kitchen Quotes for the Non-Cook...

"My next house will have no kitchen. Just vending machines."

"I serve 3 meals. Frozen, Microwave, and Take-out."

"If you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen."

"When I said 'I DO' I didn't mean dishes!"

"My favorite thing to make for dinner is reservations."

"Make yourself at home. Clean my kitchen."

and my favorite....

"This kitchen is closed due to illness. I'm sick of cooking."

My Kitchen Sign...

This is the sign that hangs in my kitchen above the kitchen sink.

Are you a cook or a non-cook?

Which is your favorite quote?

This is the Dukes of Hazzard cake I made for my cousin's birthday.

The rocks are fondant.
The grass is buttercream frosting.
The water is white fondant with blue gel frosting.
The sand is edible.

Christmas Countdown Crafts. Chalkboard Countdown

Simple Chalkboard Countdown

This is the Chalkboard from my Picture Wall in my livingroom. I really love the idea of having a chalkboard in the livingroom.

This year we made a simple Christmas Countdown. Just 25 days on a chalkboard. The kids put an "X" through the numbers day by day and a foam snowflake goes on our current day til Christmas. Today we have 18 days until Christmas!

*(17 if you are reading this via email subscription. If you haven't yet sign up to the right. It's FREE!)

We have done the paper chains. Just make 25 paper chains and tear one down everyday.

We have done the Santa Claus beard. Cut off a section of his beard day by day.

We have added a sticker to a Calendar day by day for 25 days.

It doesn't matter how you do it. The kids just love counting down the days until Christmas :)

How are you counting down the days until Christmas or another Holiday?

Turquoise Picture Wall

Turquoise Picture Wall

It took a few weeks to get this wall together. I had to combine my ideas into one, get family pictures done, and decide how to put it all together.

Our "Family" is growing like a "Tree". "K" for the Kennedy Family, where you can "Just be you!" and feel "Love" all the way through.

I spray painted all the frames brown, turquoise, and white.

We coordinated outfits to match our living room colors.

The Tree is metal from Kirklands.

The butterflies are Christmas Tree ornaments :)

We change up the chalkboard wording weekly. Last week was "Home Sweet Home". This week is "Just be you!"

The "Family" is a wall decal from Hobby Lobby.

The "Love" is metal from Hobby Lobby that I spray painted.

Tape off where you want your picture wall to be. Form a square or rectangle with blue painters tape and fill it in with anything you decide to add to your picture wall. Be creative, thing outside the box (christmas ornaments), go to blogs or pinterest for inspiration, and get started.

Our picture wall makes me smile :)

Tutorial: How to stamp on fondant with edible ink

Tutorial: Stamping on Cakes

Did you know you can get a rubber stamp and add great details to your cakes?

After seeing different cake decorators using stamps to emboss their fondant with designs I decided to take it to the next level and add color!

It's so simple!!

Here is a step by step tutorial on how I stamp on my fondant with food coloring.

You will need.....

Rubber Stamp
Wilton's icing colors
clear vanilla/almond extract
paint brush
paper towel

For the pictures below I will be creating a "Happy Birthday" label for a cake.

Prepare your surface to prevent fondant from sticking.

Roll out your fondant.

On a plate put some Wilton's Ice Coloring (I used purple) and Clear Vanilla Extract to thin it out some.

Mix well

With a clean stamp press into coloring.

*NOTE* do not mix your cake decorating stamps with your ink stamps*

Make sure your stamp is fully covered. If it is not restamp it in the coloring.

Lightly stamp down on a clean paper towel to get rid of excess coloring.

EVENLY stamp down over your fondant. Make sure to put down pressure evenly and not too hard. Pressing down too hard will put down an impression of the actual stamp around the design.

Lift up stamp.

If you missed a spot do not restamp over it. You most likely will not get it lined up exactly right. Just use your paint brush and fill it in or leave it alone. I'm sure it looks great either way.

Then cut around your image. I used a circle cutter to make a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" sign to add to my cake.

Let dry and add it to your cake with a small dab of water.

To stamp on a cake.....

Do the same thing as above but.......

..when you press your stamp on the cake remember a round cake is round. You will have to rock your stamp side to side to get it pressed on the cake evenly.

Cakes that have been stamped.....

Think how creative and unique your cakes can get! The endless possibilities!
